County Court Transcript Rates

The following applies only to solicitors, litigants in person and other authorised bodies, not to organisations or departments with whom we currently hold contracts.

Like most firms on the tape panel, we charge by the folio [every 72 words transcribed]. Our rate is the same for proceedings and judgments, and depends on when you require your transcript:

NEW RATES EFFECTIVE 1 MARCH 2010
  • Routine (turnaround time 15 working days) -- £1.30 per folio plus VAT

  • Priority (turnaround time between 3-14 working days, as you require) -- £1.42 per folio plus VAT

  • Expedite (turnaround time 48 hours/two working days) -- 20% uplift on Routine plus VAT
[Prices include one free copy if required]

Although it's impossible to give a precise quote before transcription is done, you can estimate the cost of your transcript on the basis of 108 folios per hour in court, which our experience has shown to be a reliable average. For example, a Routine order for a half-hour judgment would cost around £70.20 + VAT, a one-hour hearing would cost roughly £140.40 + VAT, et cetera. (Try our County Court Transcript Estimate Calculator.)

Please note: upon receiving the tapes for any Routine or Priority order, we will issue an estimate invoice that must be paid in full before transcription will begin. (Solicitors, please let us know when placing your order if your client is publicly funded.)

Please inform us of any change or cancellation to your order by fax or letter. You will be responsible for paying for any transcription that has already taken place.

Our minimum charge is £9.00 + VAT.

The EX 107 Tape Transcription Form (County Court)

  • You must fill one of these out and submit it to the court to have your hearing transcribed. The EX 107 can be requested at any county court; it's also online in .PDF format at the Courts Service Website.

  • When you place your order with us, please write "MK Transcribing Services, DX 100031 Bletchley" on the line that reads 'Transcription order placed with:'. (DX is a secure internal mail system used by courts, solicitors and other professionals. Quoting our DX number on the EX 107 can hasten our receipt of the tapes.)

  • Please fax or post us a copy of your EX 107 after sending it to the court so we are aware of your order and can chase the tapes up on your behalf if necessary. Alternatively, you may email your EX 107 to Paul Downes.

When to Expect Your Transcript

  • Turnaround time is measured from the date we receive payment on our estimate (or, in the case of expedites and public funding, the date the tapes arrive) to the date we complete transcription / send the draft judgment for approval.

  • Turnaround time does not necessarily imply the date you will receive the completed transcript (applies particularly to county court). However, we will do our best to fulfil any request for a specific delivery date, subject to the relevant pricing schedule.

  • We will inform you of any difficulty we encounter that may impact a transcript's timely delivery.

  • Draft judgments and rulings must go to the court for approval before being released. We have little control over how long this process takes. However, we have a system in place for chasing up outstanding judgments.

Upon Completion of the Transcript

  • All customers will receive an invoice showing the balance due or their transcript with a cheque for the refund amount. Balances are due strictly within 30 days and must be paid before we will release the transcript. [Solicitors, please be aware that by signing the EX 107 your firm is responsible for making timely payment, regardless of any arrangement you may have made with a client.]

  • Amendments to proceedings will be made free of charge. We are not permitted to modify judgments after they have been approved by the judge.

  • Please read our payment terms and options below.
